Kids have Better Access to Pools but We are not Producing Champions says Khajan Singh Tokas CRPF

Image
Khajan Singh Tokas was India’s first swimmer to have won a medal in the Asian Games. His 200m butterfly silver at the Seoul Asian Games in 1986 was a benchmark. The achievement made swimming a popular competition. Khajan Singh Tokas is currently working with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and all of his achievements in swimming still stand fresh in the minds of sports enthusiasts of the country. Children thronged pools across the country to emulate Khajan Singh Tokas but none has shown the talent to achieve similar feats. It pains him that swimming has not grown. “Facilities have improved. Kids have better access to pools but we are not producing champions. The reasons are many but lack of talent is not the one,” he says, relaxing in his house at Vasant Kunj. Khajan Singh swam to keep his father’s memory alive. He was nearly drowned once before elder brother Balkishan pulled him out of the pond in Delhi’s Munirka area. It was terrifying but it was inspiring too. Khajan S...

After many metres, I found Ahmed also lying on the ground. "Someone held Ahmed. We ran together for almost 200 metres. Then we found a car full of injured people, whose trunk was open and contained two or three bodies, heading to the Indonesian Hospital in Jabalia. We put Ahmed and Momen in the trunk. Kim Jong Un 'Seriously Ill' In North Korea Covid Surge, Says His Sister

Image
Pyongyang:  Kim Jong Un's sister revealed that the North Korean leader suffered from a "high fever" during a recent Covid outbreak, as she vowed to "eradicate" South Korean authorities if they continued to tolerate propaganda leaflets the regime blames for spreading the virus. Repeating dubious claims that the pamphlets caused the recent Covid outbreak in the north, Kim Yo Jong blamed "South Korean puppets" for sending "dirty objects" across the border in leaflets carried by balloons, the official Korean Central News Agency reported Thursday. The revelation of her brother's illness marked an unusual admission for a regime that rarely comments on the leader's health -- and then only to show that he shares the struggles of the people. Kim Yo Jong said in a speech that the North Korean leader was "seriously ill" during his bout with fever, according to KCNA. Still, she added that her brother "could not lie down ...

Palestinian Authority to seek full membership at UN

Image
RAMALLAH: Palestinian leaders have launched a new diplomatic drive to obtain full membership of the UN. The campaign will culminate with a landmark speech by President Mahmoud Abbas at the UN General Assembly on Sept. 23, in which he will make the case for enhanced status. “In the absence of a political path and hope for the Palestinians to end the occupation, they have no choice but to resort to the UN to enhance the status of Palestine as a state and the Palestinians as a people on their land under occupation,” Palestinian government spokesman Ibrahim Melhem told Arab News on Wednesday. The UN granted Palestine non-member observer state status at a historic vote in the General Assembly in November 2012, when 138 countries voted in favor, 9 opposed it, and 41 abstained. The resolution included “the hope that the Security Council will consider positively” accepting the request for full membership. Abbas submitted this in September 2011, but it fell in the Security Cou...

US uncovers Iran ‘plot’ to kill ex-White House official John Bolton

Image
WASHINGTON: The US Justice Department said Wednesday it had uncovered an Iranian plot to kill former White House National Security Adviser John Bolton, and announced charges against a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The Justice Department said 45-year-old Shahram Poursafi, also known as Mehdi Rezayi, had offered to pay an individual in the US $300,000 to kill Bolton, the former US ambassador to the UN. The Justice Department said that plan was likely set in retaliation for the US killing of top Guard commander Qassem Soleimani in Iraq in January 2020. Prosecutors say the scheme unfolded more than a year after Soleimani, the head of the Revolutionary Guard’s elite Quds Force and an architect of Tehran’s proxy wars in the Middle East, was killed in a targeted airstrike at Baghdad’s international airport in January 2020. After the strike, Bolton, who by then had left his White House post, tweeted, “Hope this is the first step to regime change in Tehran.” Read...
