 GN Saibaba acquitted in Maoist links case, Bombay HC orders immediate release The Bombay high court of Frida acquitted former Delhi University professor GN Saibaba in an alleged Maoist links case. The Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court also ordered his immediate release from jail, news agency PTI reported. Wheelchair-bound Saibaba is currently lodged at the Nagpur central prison. A division bench of Justice Rohit Deo and Anil Pansare allowed the appeal filed by Saibaba challenging a 2017 order of the trial court convicting him and sentencing him to life imprisonment. The bench also allowed the appeal of five other convicts in the case and acquitted them. One of the five died pending the hearing of the appeal. The bench directed for the convicts to be released forthwith from jail unless they are accused in any other case. It was the day of Makar Sankranti which is celebrated by taking a dip in the holy river. Agarwal observed that temple flowers were being dumped into the river. As these flowers are filled with pesticides, the chemicals mix with the river water and create harmful compounds. Private investment sees an uptick in Indian real estate sector

The National Capital Region has seen 60% of the investments in the first half of the current fiscal. The report states that the private equity (PE) investment in the first half of the current fiscal was $ 2.8 billion as against $ 2.0 billion in the corresponding period last fiscal. The Indian real estate sector has witnessed a year-on-year increase in private investment, which industry analysts claim is a sign of trust and reflects robust health of the Indian economy. An analysis by Anarock, the real estate advisory firm, has reported a 40 per cent increase in such investments in the first half of the financial year 2022–23 as compared to the same time period in the financial year 2021–22.
