Odisha Approves Threefold Salary Hike For MLAs Ministers And Ex-Legislators

 The Odisha Assembly on Tuesday approved a major revision of salaries and allowances for sitting and former MLAs, increasing their monthly remuneration from ₹1.11 lakh to ₹3.45 lakh . This marks one of the steepest hikes among Indian states. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling announced the change after the Assembly unanimously passed four amendment bills enabling the revised pay structure, effective retrospectively from June 2024 , when the current Assembly was formed. MLAs will now earn ₹3.45 lakh/month , up from ₹1.11 lakh, after the Assembly approved one of the largest pay hikes in the country. Ministers and ex-MLAs also get significant increases. The salaries of the chief minister, ministers, speaker, deputy speaker, leader of opposition , and pensions for ex-MLAs have also been increased nearly three times.  Ajay Gupta, co-owner of the Goa nightclub Birch by Romeo Lane , where a devastating fire claimed 25 lives, was detained on Tuesday shortly after admitting himself to Delhi’s Institute of Brain and Spine in Lajpat Nagar. According to officials, he arrived at the hospital in an Innova with a Haryana registration number. “I was only a sleeping partner,” says detained co-owner Ajay Gupta after the Goa nightclub inferno that killed 25.
